When to Elope on the Oregon Coast

First of all, great choice! As someone who grew up in Oregon and has been to that Oregon Coast countless times, I’m still in awe of the coasts beauty and many diverse landscapes. It’s ever changing, ever wild, and oh so beautiful. Let’s get into some nitty gritty to help you decide when to elope on the Oregon Coast.

Lets talk weather patterns

  • Spring – Spring is one of the more volatile times on the coast in terms of weather. You may get pouring rain, hail, wind or bright sunny skies all within an hour! Expect it to be mixed weather with some sun breaks mixed in. Avg. rainfall 4.93” Avg. Temp 56-41°
  • Summer – Summer on the Oregon coast is the most popular time to be at the coast, tourism picks up and you can expect to see more parking lots filling up. The weather can be warm and sunny but it’s often very foggy and cold as well. Especially when it’s hot inland, you will get more fog on the coast. Typically this will burn off by afternoon, but you never know. Sometimes the temp is warmer, but feels colder because the wind picks up in the summertime. Summer is also the time for some crazy beautiful sunsets. Late summer is my personal favorite. Avg. Rainfall 1.16 Avg. Temp 67-53°
  • Autumn – In my brain, autumn on the coast is like a laid back version of spring. It’s a bit more mild, but you should be prepared for rain, and pockets of sunshine. Layers are your best friend. Avg. Rainfall 5.61″ Avg. Temp 61-44°
  • Winter – I love winter on the coast. It rains a LOT. But there are also days that feel warm and sunny, even more so than summer I think, because often there will be sunshine without such intense wind. That being said, it is very rainy, and hit or miss on the sunny days, so very hard to plan around. If you choose the winter, I’m so there, and we will embrace either rain or shine! If you love those moody Oregon coast vibes (think twilight) this might be the season for you.  Avg Rainfall 9.62″ Avg. Temp 48-37°

Vibes

From soft pastel sunrises to moody days filled with mist and fog to sunsets intense with golden evening light, the Oregon coast always delivers the vibes. All you need to do is show up and embraces whatever she offers up. Who knows? You may get all the different vibes on the same day, she likes to be unpredictable like that.

Tides

Another tip to keep in mind, tides! If you choose to work with me, I will be checking tide tables so that we know what tides to expect and also which beaches are best depending on the tides. Minus and plus tides happen around the full moon cycle and can allow for even lower tides and cool opportunities for seeing tide pools and some hidden coves here and there, while on the high tide end, you may only have a little bit of beach when typically there would be tons of space to run around and explore.

Takeaway

Anytime is totally doable to elope on the Oregon coast, however late spring from May-June is really beautiful, the crowds aren’t as big and its not as hot inland yet, so the fog isn’t happening as much on the coast.

Summer, July-August, is typically the warmest which is a pro, and there are some incredible sunsets, but the fog does roll in often and it can be windy, as well as the most popular time for tourism and you can expect larger crowds wherever you go!

Autumn, September-October or early November, such a wonderful time to choose! Definitely a little colder and unpredictable than summer, but lots of pockets of sunshine and overall a wonderful time to choose! Especially the whole month of September, this is such a great time to be on the coast.

Winter, November-March for our purposes, is going to be less popular for most, but if you want those rainy, moody romantic vibes, this might be your perfect season!
